Markel is expanding across mainland Europe. Thanks to a new underwriting team
in the Netherlands, the Dutch marketplace is now opening up.

Markel has a growing presence in Spain and across North-West Europe. This summer, with the launch of Markel
International Netherlands, it has entered the Benelux region and will develop a strong Dutch business.
Based in Rotterdam, Markel International Netherlands comprises a team of more than 20 highly experienced
insurance professionals with long track records in the local marketplace. Led by Elbert-jan Offereins, the team offers a wide range of insurance services for professional indemnity, general liability, directors' and officers' insurance and engineering insurance.
"We are building on Markel's worldwide experience for specialist insurance and innovative products," says
Elbert-jan. "We have detailed knowledge of the local marketplace, and we can tailor our solutions for specific risks. With Markel's name and worldwide
reputation behind us, we have greatly strengthened the existing experience of the Dutch team."

Commenting on the move into the Netherlands, William Stovin, president and chief operating officer of Markel
International, said: "Our aim is to take Markel into new countries and regions, extending the niche insurance products that Markel is renowned for.
