Markel international Sweden provides insurance products throughout north and east Europe. Anne-Sofia Hedin, the office's new general manager, reflects on growth over the last two years and looks forward to continued expansion.
The second anniversary of the launch of Markel International Sweden has coincided with the appointment of a new general manager for Markel's north and east European business. Anne-Sofia Hedin, formerly operations manager of Markel International Sweden, has taken over from Ove Staaf, who has retired but will be retained as a consultant. Anne-Sofia will build on the growth that the office has enjoyed over the last two years and will widen its services and geographical reach.
"We're expanding in Nordic countries, Baltic states and Russia," says Anne-Sofia, "and since 2008 we've been successfully providing a core portfolio of marine business
coupled with professional risks, including general liability and product liability. We cover a wide range of clients, from private individuals up to national industries and multinational companies."
Business can be written through either of Markel International's commercial entities: Markel International Insurance Company Ltd
(MIICL) and Lloyd's Syndicate 3000, which is wholly-owned by Markel International. This gives the Stockholm-based team a very strong foundation to take the Markel brand
and products further afield in Europe.
"We have a highly experienced underwriting team," continues Anne-Sofia, "and most of them have over 20 years' experience in the
north and east European markets. Moreover, they are supported by a large pool of underwriters in the London Market, as well as claims specialists. In addition to myself, there is Philippe Tamwelius, Tomas Nilsson, Staffan Sahlin and Ingalill Iselius. We also have a local claims manager, Tomas Nilsson. Collectively, the Stockholm team provides a growing regional service backed by a worldwide capability and product portfolio."
