Our underwriters and claims specialists have extensive local knowledge. Building on the strength of the Markel organisation, they provide expert knowledge of niche insurance markets.
Markel International opened an office in Sweden in 2008, and since then the underwriting team has been extending Markel's products across a growing regional marketplace. Particularly strong in marine-related business, the team is also creating a broad mix of professional-risk products and can draw on the full range of more than 80 products offered throughout the Markel network of offices in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
General manager
Anne-Sofia joined Markel in 2008 as the operations manager and became general manager of Markel International Sweden in April 2010.
She has more than 25 years' experience in the Swedish and international insurance and reinsurance industry.
Senior underwriter – liability and financial lines/special risks
Philippe joined Markel in July 2009. He has almost 20 years' experience in liability and financial lines/special risk underwriting across Europe.
Claims manager
Tomas joined Markel in 2008 and has 20 years' insurancerelated claims experience for a variety of Swedish and international insurance
companies. Tomas is responsible for the claims handling of both marine and non-marine classes of business.
Senior underwriter - hull
Staffan joined Markel in 2008 and has worked in the insurance industry for nearly 30 years. He has over 20 years' experience in hull
underwriting in the Nordic and Baltic region.
Senior underwriter – cargo, marine liability and fine art
Ingalill joined Markel in 2008 and has 20 years' experience as a cargo and marine underwriter for Swedish and international companies. Ingalill also has in-depth experience of fine art insurance.
Consultant
Ove joined Markel in 2007 and was the first general manager for Markel International Sweden. He is now a consultant, helping the team with a range of risks, particularly hull.
